A snippet taken from Spotify's 'About' section for SBK:
"SBK has already made his mark in the grime scene with appearances on sets with some of the scenes most prestigious MCs and DJs".
It won't be long until other MC's will be measured for their caliber from having appearances on set with this prestigious MC.
At merely 18 years old it's already explicit that SBK has an intuitive grasp on flow and delivery - showing so much composure on an instrumental he's able to find pockets and 'take a leap of faith' to stuff so much imagery into single lines: clear display of this shown in a tune that emerged in August last year as well: Lost. The vibrancy of lyrics mirroring the stern black and white video.
There are not many MC's that could strike a chord in you the way SBK does, with his choice of words in each bar energizing you. Already making a name for himself prior to this track, a defining moment for this young artist from Stevenage was at Frisco's "The Den" event where he got shelling and created an uproar in the room. We see the grime veteran BBK family expressing clear approval. It's interesting to see how you had Skepta back in the day supportive of Novelist and now, years later we see in a Studio 82 performance Novelist now filling those shoes and like with Novelist himself - it's definitely not for no reason.
Exhibiting prowess not only as a lyricist but as a producer too - he proves once again it's easy for him to get a rewind. Comparable to an instrumental JME would jump on, it's evident the two come from that similar abstract mindset. There was an nme interview titled 'The First Family of Grime' back in 2016 where Julie Adenuga spoke about her upbringing and there was an anecdote about being aware of their situation with money and that they knew when the sound of the ice cream truck appeared, that ice-cream was unlikely. Skepta mentioning that he wished he could return to those times of having nothing to do which is where creativity was birthed. Likewise in this song, SBK mentions being 'down in the dirt knowing where the art is' which shows he's seen the world through that same lens - another reassurance of this young talent.
SBK Prince of Grime out now on spotify. Get listening!
PS: "The whole world runs on energy so - remember to say thank you and please."
